Etimologia

Il termine Ginglymostomatidae (dal greco γίγγλυμος = cerniera e στῶμα = bocca) vuol dire "bocca a cerniera".

Biologia

Gli squali nutrice sono squali che vivono adagiati al fondo, hanno cioè abitudini mwdgbentoniche. Vivono prevalentemente in acque costiere a basse profondità, soprattutto in prossimità di mwdwbarriere coralline, lagune e mweamangrovieti.

Si cibano principalmente di mweginvertebrati mwewbentonici come mwfacrostacei, mwfqmolluschi, mwfgechinodermi e mwfwtunicati, ma anche di piccoli mwgapesci.
